The project, Earth Action Mentor (EAM), is being launched by a dedicated and devoted band of permaculturists. EAM is led by Doniga Markegard of Peninsula Permaculture, a project of the non-profit Conexions. EAM is a concept that we all have been working on and developing through different permaculture guilds and networks over the last decade, yet EAM is clearly focusing on a very specific function, and is currently being designed to best serve this function.

To view how your content would be shared, check out our site in the section on Toby Hemenway, who has agreed to let Earth Action Mentor have access to posting his content.

If you would like to explore the site more, email Doniga and you will be provided with a promotional membership.

How EAM is best described....
Earth Action Mentor is a community collaborative dedicated to furthering permaculture principles and practices. We are working towards bringing permaculture to the forefront of people's actions and awareness through multiple avenues of mentorship.  Our team is dedicated to enhancing the permaculture commons through permaculture mentoring, community inspiration and direct application. All of the proceeds of EarthActionMentor, beyond operating expenses will go towards permaculture aid projects around the world.

We have looked at other examples of on-line mentoring business models and have chosen to go with a content driven membership website which is supported by monthly memberships from each individual and not ad-driven.  The monthly membership is available at a low price or free to scholarship recipients.  We are using a community supported funding model, where everyone pays the same low price, no matter if they are a casual learner, visiting the site occasionally to watch a new video, or a dedicated student who may gain a lasting mentoring relationship with the mentors of EAM and grow their own individual permaculture sites.  We are also working to create right livelihoods for up and coming permaculture mentors by bringing in enough funds for mentors to get paid a living wage doing what they love.

Having said this, your contributions to the website will enable those directing permaculture aid projects to apply for grant monies to aid in their work.  As a community collaborative, we would like you, our content contributors to have the ability to direct some of the surplus funds in these ways:

    * If we find that your content is getting a large percentage of hits by tracking the usage of our sites, we will contact you and see how you may want to direct these funds either in a stipend to you, directed towards a particular permaculture project, or towards research and development.
    * We also plan on preparing a bi-annual report to all of the site contributors and funders that will explicitly show where all of the funds are being spent and what aspects of the website are receiving the most traffic.
    * We are operating out of a 501c3 non-profit, and we plan on collaborating with other non-profits who may be gathering funds for aid projects in order to maximize and prioritize our efforts.

Specifically we are looking for permission from you to post any content you may have on file that you could provide to us, content that may be floating around from courses you have taught and content that may be on your website or other websites.  We are aiming to have as much permaculture content in one place that is as easy for people to access as possible.  Wherever we post your content we will create links directly back to your website or links to buy your permaculture products.

As a contributor you will be given special membership to the program as well as more publicity to your projects. As a potential mentor and on-going contributor you will be able to be more effective in your teaching and sharing of material.

It is our hope that as we continue to be challenged with the social, economic and environmental changes that we face today, the solutions that we hold will become accessible to those who need them most, those out there who are ready to learn and continue to broaden the horizons, insights and inspiration through permaculture. We truly want to acknowledge all that you already have contributed to the movement and look forward to hearing back from you about your interest in working with us. If you have any insights, ideas or questions, please feel free to contact me.
